چکیده
The osidase and dehydrogenase activities in the enzymes oxidizing xanthine can be differentiated by the use of certain inhibitors (1). The present study was designed to see if such inhibitors are specific for the reaction with oxygen, or whether these agents also block the transfer of electrons to cytochrome c and nitrate. Both reduced diphosphopyridine nucleotide and hypoxanthine were studied as substrates because they represent separable activities in the xanthine enzymes.

Onion, a Potent Inhibitor of Xantine Oxidase
Onion (Allium Cepa) contains high levels of flavonoids. Although there are many studies indicating the inhibitory effects of flavonoids on xanthine oxidase, there is no report on the effect of onion on this enzyme. Therefore, in the present study, the inhibitory effects of onion on xanthine oxidase are investigated. Fresh filtered juice of onion was prepared and its inhibitory effect on guine...
متن کاملVirtual Screening Analysis and In-vitro Xanthine Oxidase Inhibitory Activity of Some Commercially Available Flavonoids
Allopurinol, the xanthine oxidase inhibitor, is the only drug available for the treatment of gout. We examined the xanthine oxidase inhibitory activity of some commercially available flavonoids such asepigallocatechin, acacatechin, myricetin, naringenin, daidzein and glycitein by virtual screening and in-vitro studies. The interacting residues within the complex model and their contact types we...

متن کاملIdentification of Intracellular Sources Responsible for Endogenous Reactive Oxygen Species Formation
The endogenous reactive oxygen species ("ROS") formation is associated with many pathologic states such as inflammatory diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, brain and heart ischemic injuries, cancer, and aging. The purpose of this study was to investigate the endogenous sources for "ROS" formation in intact isolated rat hepatocytes, in particular, peroxisomal oxidases, monoamine oxidase, xanth...

متن کاملThe Role of Uric Acid in Kidney Fibrosis: Experimental Evidences for the Causal Relationship
Hyperuricemia is a common finding in chronic kidney disease due to decreased uric acid clearance. The role of uric acid as a risk factor for chronic kidney disease has been largely debated, and recent studies suggested a role of uric acid in the causation and progression of kidney fibrosis, a final common pathway in chronic kidney disease. Uric acid and xanthine oxidase may contribute to kidney...
